About Our Chapter

Founded: May 1938.

Charter Members

Grace Binga, Lillian Brown, Marjorie Cephas, Sue Clay, Gussie Ferguson, Jeanette Graves, Alice Houston, Mary Mabin, Nina Morton, and Daphne Quarles.

Key Civic Projects

Supported the establishment of the first monument at the Virginia State Capitol honoring African-Americans, were instrumental in the development of a monument honoring Maggie Walker, other local civic activities have included Meals on Wheels, YWCA Christmas Program, Carol Adams Foundation (for victims of Domestic Violence), the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School for students of limited means, Haiti’s Healthy Child Project by VillageMED, as well as the Peter Paul Development Center (an outreach and community center in Richmond’s East end).

The Richmond Girl Friends are a group of accomplished, civic minded trailblazers and community leaders that have been enjoying generational friendships and fellowship for more than 82 years.
